What is Inspire?

Inspire is a small, electronic device that keeps the airway open with a gentle pulse as you sleep. The system is surgically implanted inside the body during an outpatient surgery. Inspire is an FDA-approved treatment that addresses the root cause of moderate to severe sleep apnea. It's an advantageous alternative to CPAP because it doesn't require a mask, hose, or oral appliance. To learn more about this innovative therapy, contact Cross Timbers ENT in Arlington, Midlothian, or Mansfield, TX.

How does Inspire work?

Inspire consists of three parts: a stimulation lead, generator, and breathing sensor lead. On the day of your surgery, two incisions will be created in the neck and upper chest to insert the Inspire implant inside the body. As you sleep, the system will monitor your breathing patterns and deliver mild stimulation to control key muscles that affect airflow. The goal is to keep the passageways clear and open to enable smooth, steady breathing. The device is controlled with an external remote that is turned on just before bedtime, enabling peaceful sleep.

Inspire FAQ

What is the recovery time after the Inspire implantation procedure?

Recovery time varies, but most patients can resume normal activities within a few days to a week after the procedure. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for a few weeks to allow proper healing of the surgical sites.

Will Inspire cure my sleep apnea?

Inspire significantly reduces the number of apnea events and improves sleep quality for many patients, but it may not completely cure sleep apnea. Regular follow-ups with our team at Cross Timbers ENT and adjustments to the device settings can optimize results and manage symptoms effectively.

How soon can I expect results from Inspire?

Most patients begin to see improvements in their sleep apnea symptoms within a few weeks of activation, which usually occurs about a month after the implantation procedure. Follow-up appointments are necessary to adjust the device settings for optimal results.
